University Lofts
Constructed in 1899,(3) this three-story brick structure is located along Bolivar Street and was home to Leggitt & Meyers, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.(1) In the early 1990s, developer Rob McGoodwin purchase the former processing plant and used it for his records-management business,(2) McGoodwin Records Storage.(3) In March 2002, Mcgoodwin announced that the former factory would be restored into 86 loft apartments,(3) coming only days after the city of Lexington and the University of Kentucky announced that they would spend $200,000 to study ways to transform an area near campus to spur reviltilization.
Construction began in May 2002 (3) and the development opened in fall 2004.
