Wellington Arms at UrbanUp by Sherman Cahal

Wellington Arms

Wellington Arms, constructed in 1931, features distinctive English Tudor-style facade and leaded glass windows along East Main Street.(1) The 44,000 sq. ft. building was constructed with one ft. poured concrete floors, 4-inch gypsum blocks for interior walls, and an exterior featuring 2 ft. Kentucky rough-cut limestone. The interior featured hardwood floors throughout, a marble lobby, burled walnut paneling, terrazzo halls, and crystal chandeliers in hallways and apartments. The building was later added to the National Register of Historic Places.(1)

In 1984, Architect Lynn Cravens and his partners purchased the five-story structure and completed a $2 million renovation the next year.(1) In June 2005, work began on a $2.5 million total restoration project of the building, which included a new roof, air conditioning, water pipes, courtyard, and a 28-unit covered parking shelter. It also included a new fitness center for the residents, a first-floor lobby space for private parties, and the relocation of The Salon, an upscale business that relocated from Lansdowne. Several units were combined, going from 33 rental units to 25 condominiums. Restoration work was completed in fall 2006.(1)
